Dear East High School Community Members,
I am proud to have the opportunity to serve the students and community of East High School as your principal. East is a school with a strong tradition, a powerful present and a future that strives to bring academic success into the life of every “Angel.”
Every day I learn something new about our school, our neighborhood and our students. I’ve known that we are a diverse community and I now understand how diversity is understood to be a unique strength of our school. I’ve learned that academic success is of incredible value here. Our students know that their academic achievement matters at East and for life. I’ve also learned that being an East Angel means being successful in academics and balancing that success with involvement in athletics, clubs and activities that make a difference to the individual and make the world a better place around us.
One of my great priorities as the principal is to listen closely to staff members, parents and students. After all, the most important job to be done as a school involves teachers, parents and students working as a team. I continue to have lunch with students and teachers on Tuesdays and Thursdays of every week. Students who have joined me for “Munchin with Youngquist,” have provided me with an education about what they think is great about East, what is not so great and what they would change if they were the principal. I encourage staff, students, parents, alumni and community members to touch base with me and to provide honest feedback about our school.
As I encourage students to study hard and to participate in all that East has to offer, I encourage parents and friends to become involved in the East experience. From volunteering as a mentor or with a sport or club, to contributing as a member of the Angel Foundation, Alumni Association or Angel Pride (go to www.angelalliance.com for more information), you can make a difference in the lives of our students.
East owns a great “Tradition of Excellence.” From our National Champion Constitutional Law team to our “Back-to-Back” State Champion Basketball team, there is greatness created and celebrated here. I look forward to knowing you and working with you to build upon our tradition and to create an even better East High School together.
With great appreciation,
John R. Youngquist
Principal
