Welcome to East's Shadowing Program!   2010/11

To schedule please call Mrs. Kim Davenport 720-423-8300

For the 2010/11 school year, the first shadow will begin in September; we will begin scheduling in August.

The Shadow Program runs from September through February. Due to the popularity of East High, the available dates are generally full by the end of November. There are no shadow days in December due to finals and it being a short month before break. Please make your request early and consider shadowing in September. Many of these days go unfilled.

As we have more students interested in East than the Shadow Program can accommodate, East will schedule a Program Preview Night on December 2nd and a Program Preview Day on March 3rd.

Shadow days at East are only on Mondays and Tuesdays and to avoid overcrowding, typically 13 students per day are scheduled. Mondays and Tuesdays all classes, including elective classes, are offered; Wednesdays and Thursdays, East is on a block schedule and those days are not conducive for shadowing. Fridays are reserved for end of the week East activities and often do not represent a typical day.

To Schedule a day for your child to shadow:

•·         Call 720.423.8352 and leave a message including:

•·         Your child's name

•·         Is there a particular East 9th grader that your child wishes to shadow

•·         Please note, that should you cancel or not show on your scheduled day, we will not be

able to reschedule. This is due to the popularity of the shadowing program.

What to plan for the day your child shadows:

•·         Arrive at East at 7:15 a.m.; be back at East by 2:45 to pick up your child in the foyer or outside at the "E", or another prearranged location by you and your child.

•·         Go with your child to room 226: enter the building, go up the main staircase to the 2nd floor; turn left and go to the end of the hallway to the Counseling Office (room 226) on the right hand side of the hallway.

•·         Your student will be checked in, given a Future East Angel ID Badge, and paired with their East High Student for the day.

•·         Parents, plan to stay for questions and answers about East, given by other parents, counselors and/ administrators.

•·         Have your child bring a book or other reading material in case the classes are doing that day.

•·         Have your child bring money for lunch or bring a sack lunch. East is an open campus during lunch periods, and many students take advantage of the area restaurants for their lunches.

About East High School

In an age which often seems careless with tradition, East prides itself in its long-standing educational service to the Denver community.  Few buildings are capable of eliciting awe, but the striking East building, located in the City Park setting, offers beautiful landscaping and renders an aesthetic experience for East High students.  East is patterned after Independence Hall in Philadelphia and was granted Denver Landmark Status on February 4, 1991, because of its architectural significance.
